There are two types of prostatectomies: the first, retropubic prostatectomy, requires an incision in the abdomen to remove the prostate and su rrounding lymph nodes; the second, perineal prostatectomy, calls for the removal of the prostate through an incision between the scrotum and anus (nearby lymph nodes are removed through the abdomen).
